Louie Josytewa is another of the talented Second Mesa silversmiths who live in the village of Shungopovi.  Louie has been doing silver work since the mid 1980s.  He learned from his brother Jesse and his uncle, Bernard Dawahoya.  He also worked with, and learned from Paul Saufkie.  In addition to silver work, Louie is a master weaver, quite an accomplishment and a skill not often found at Hopi today.

When we asked Louie about his jewelry making, what it means to him, he responded with a most wonderful story.  He told us that because it has been many years since his village has held an initiation ceremony, he has not been initiated and in Hopi terms is still a boy.  As a result, Louie cannot make prayer feathers so instead he puts his prayers into the jewelry he makes.  He "hopes it brings good luck for those who buy it".
