Allow us to introduce silversmith Elmer Satala, Jr. and his fiancee Monica.
Elmer is a member of the Bear Clan and is from the Hopi Second Mesa village of Songoopavi (Shungopavi).
He began silver work at the encouragement of his uncles Watson and Delbridge Hohanie. After completing silversmithing classes,
Elmer graduated in 1992 from the Hopi Artist's Guild. "I enrolled in the classes because I wanted to learn how to work with silver. I watched Watson with his work and that inspired me."
Elmer worked for the Guild for three years before apprenticing with his Uncle Watson for another four years.
He has learned well and takes great pride in his work - and we think is shows!
