Four Long-haired Katsinas (Angak-china) dance across this beautiful, highly polished buckle by Hopi Silversmith, Ramon Dalangyawma.  These katsinas are favorites at the dances because they bring the gentle rains that insure crop growth and good harvesting.   This piece measures 2 by 3 5/8 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Because Ramon enjoys working in very heavy gauge silver, it is worth mentioning that the buckle is 1/8 of an inch thick and weighs 4 ounces.  Ramon's last name is his hallmark and is stamped on the reverse side.

This lovely satin-finished buckle by Silversmith, Weaver Selina features a parrot with prayer feather, clouds and rain symbols on its body and wings.  One legend says that parrot brought color into the world and was also a "watch dog" at one time for the people.  One night there was a great fire, which engulfed the area in smoke.  Parrot sounded the alarm that saved the people from certain death.  When the smoke cleared that the parrots, covered in ash were now black in color, thus the birth of the blackbird.  This buckle measures 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 inch belt.  Weaver's Rising Sun hallmark is stamped on the reverse side.

This beautiful silver and 14 karat gold overlay Hopi buckle was expertly crafted by Silversmith, Watson Honanie.  It features a pair of elk in a mountain setting with Tawa, Father to all the Hopis watching over them.  It is highly polished, measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Watson has etched the branches of the trees and the mane of the bull elk giving texture to the overall design.  His hallmark, a hand with friendship marks in the palm is stamped on the reverse side.  Magnificent!

A bear paw with a bear inside the pad is the main feature of this highly polished buckle by Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas.  Bear is a great healer at Hopi and the Bear Clan (Trini Lucas' clan) are the leaders.  A cloud with a bolt of lightning is also part of the design.  It measures  2 inches tapering down to 1 5/8 inches top to bottom by 3 inches wide and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Trini's TLd hallmark inside of a Bear is stamped on the reverse side.

This expertly (and intricately) crafted, highly polished buckle was created by Silversmith, Ray Kyasyousie.  It measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch buckle.  Here is a description of the design, as told to us by Dorothy Poleyma-Kyasyousie. "The buckle Ray made is, of couse, Tawa-ee-Tana (Sun, our Father) shining over his wonderful creations of rabbits, butterflies, humming birds, lizard and spider among the flowers, reminding us how magnificent his works are.  Sometimes we have to get back into nature to see how beautiful this world is."    What more can be said?

Kwahu, the Eagle Katsina is featured on this beautiful, highly polished belt buckle by Silversmith, Eddison Wadsworth Soohafyah.  Usually appearing in night ceremonies in March, this figure will move and cry in a most realistic manner.  At the end of the dance, the people give him corn meal and pray to him that more eaglets will be born, so their feathers may be gathered and used in the making of prayer feathers for everyone carrying the prayers for health and prosperity.  This piece measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Eddison's, Lakon Cloud hallmark is stamped on the reverse side.
