Two new, beautifully crafted bolos from Silversmith, Weaver Selina.  Both of them have a 42 inch (handmade tip to handmade tip), 8 ply black cord.  The satin-finished "pendants" measure 1 1/2 by 2 inches and carry Weaver's Rising Sun hallmark on the reverse side.

The katsina, Chakwaina is honored here on this fabulous bolo by Silversmith, Gerald Lomaventema.  Chakwaina originally comes from the Zuni pueblo and is usually seen dancing during the Winter months in the hopes of bringing snow.  Gerald has added pieces of Royston, Kingman and White Buffalo turquoise (around the eyes) as well as coral and jet to this cast piece.  The 8 ply brown cord measures 47 inches handmade tip to handmade tip, with the main bolo piece measuring 2 3/8 by 3 1/2 inches.  Gerald's Bear Paw hallmark is stamped on the reverse side.  A very striking, one-of-a-kind work of art!

Hopi Buckles

Two outstandingly beautiful, highly polished Hopi buckles from Silversmith, Ramon Dalangyawma.   As many of our regular customers and collectors of Ramon's work know, he enjoys working in very heavy gauge silver, so we have included a measure of thickness in our descriptions.  Ramon's last name is his hallmark and is stamped on the reverse side.

Howling wolves in the desert are featured here on this buckle that measures 1 7/8 by 3 1/2 by 1/8 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 3/8 inch belt.

Eagles are revered at Hopi because they fly close to Tawa, the Sun and Father and are able to carry the prayers of the people to him on their feathers.  Honored here, this Eagle buckle measures 2 by 3 3/8 by 1/16 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.

Palakwayo, the Red-tailed Hawk katsina is one of the chief katsinas of Second Mesa, especially during initiation ceremonies.  Palakwayo is featured here in a village scene on this highly polished Hopi buckle by Silversmith, Eddison Wadsworth Soohafyah.  It measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Eddison's hallmark, Lakon Cloud symbol, which refers to the basket dance, is stamped on the reverse side.

A night scene where the powerful bison is featured.  At its heart, a storm cloud, with rain, cloud and lightning symbols surrounding it.  Although highly polished, Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas has etched the back of the bison giving the impression of fur.  The buckle measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas created this piece and has her TLd hallmark inside of a bear, stamped on the reverse side.

Tawa, the Sun and Father to the Hopi is featured on this satin-finished buckle by Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas.  An Eagle wings its way toward the Sun, carrying the prayers of the people, which usually include the desire for rain.  In the lower left-hand corner is a stylized feather, a cloud and raindrop.  This piece measures 2 by 3 1/8 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Trini has etched the rays of the sun and the feathers of the eagle and added a cast wave to the end of buckle.  Her hallmark TLd inside of a bear, her clan symbol is stamped on the reverse side.

A bear paw with a bear inside the pad is the main feature of this highly polished buckle by Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas.  Bear is a great healer at Hopi and the Bear Clan (Trini Lucas' clan) are the leaders.  A cloud with a bolt of lightning is also part of the design.  It measures  2 inches tapering down to 1 5/8 inches top to bottom by 3 inches wide and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Trini's TLd hallmark inside of a Bear is stamped on the reverse side.  Featured in the Southwest Traditions ad in the Summer edition of American Indian Art Magazine.

This expertly (and intricately) crafted, highly polished buckle was created by Silversmith, Ray Kyasyousie.  It measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch buckle.  Here is a description of the design, as told to us by Dorothy Poleyma-Kyasyousie. "The buckle Ray made is, of couse, Tawa-ee-Tana (Sun, our Father) shining over his wonderful creations of rabbits, butterflies, humming birds, lizard and spider among the flowers, reminding us how magnificent his works are.  Sometimes we have to get back into nature to see how beautiful this world is."    What more can be said?

Bison stands serenely beneath a lightning storm, no doubt safe with the prayer feathers around his neck.  Other symbols on this piece are corn, dragonfly, the world with its four directions and four races of people and a tadpole.  Much needed rain is certain to come!  This satin finished Hopi buckle measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 3/8 inch belt.  Beautifully crafted by Silversmith, Duane Tawahongva and carries his initials on the reverse side.

This satin finished buckle with etching on the rays of Tawa Sun Face, comes to us from Trinidad Lucas.  Next to Tawa is a lovely prayer shrine very similar to those often seen at Hopi.  It measures 1 1/2 by 2 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 inch belt.  Trini's hallmark TLd inside of a bear, appears on the reverse side.

This lovely satin-finished buckle from Trinidad Lucas features a butterfly surrounded by flowers, water symbols, clouds and tobacco leaves...symbols for the continuation of life.  This buckle measures 3 inches long by 2 inches tapering down to 1 1/2 inches wide.  It will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Trini's hallmark TLd inside a bear, her clan symbol is stamped on the reverse side.  The texturing in the blackened areas give the impression of movement across this piece.

In addition to the Bear Clan being the leaders of the Hopi, Bear is also considered one of the great healers in their medicine.  Silversmith, Trinidad Lucas, a member of the Bear Clan, created this satin finished buckle featuring a Medicine Bear surrounded by weather symbols, important for healing the earth, which is also indicated with a cross for the four directions.  It measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Trini's hallmark is a stylized version of her initials TLd inside of a bear and is stamped on the reverse side.

Kwahu, the Eagle Katsina is featured on this beautiful, highly polished belt buckle by Silversmith, Eddison Wadsworth Soohafyah.  Usually appearing in night ceremonies in March, this figure will move and cry in a most realistic manner.  At the end of the dance, the people give him corn meal and pray to him that more eaglets will be born, so their feathers may be gathered and used in the making of prayer feathers for everyone carrying the prayers for health and prosperity.  This piece measures 2 by 3 inches and will accommodate up to a 1 1/2 inch belt.  Eddison's, Lakon Cloud hallmark is stamped on the reverse side.
